Threaded studs are externally threaded fasteners without a head, which are threaded for the entire length of the part.

During installation, the pin diameter contracts and then creates outward pressure against the hole. This outward pressure is what holds the pin in place.

Coiled pins are more flexible than slotted pins, making them preferable for use in softer materials. They are also easier to install than slotted pins and are superior in their ability to withstand vibration following installation.

We carry coiled pins in steel with a thermal black finish, and in 420 stainless steel. Diameters range from 1/16" up to 3/8", while lengths range from 1/4" up to 3".

Tee Nuts are internally threaded, barrel-shaped fasteners matched with a flat base. The base features cut out prongs which extend in the same direction as the barrel. We offer tee nuts 3, 4 and 6 prong configurations in a variety of diameters and barrel lengths.

Often used in climbing systems, the tee nut is inserted into a pre-drilled hole from the back side of a flat surface, allowing a bolt or machine screw to be attached to the internal threads from the front side.

The 3-prong style is used in harder materials to minimize splitting of the mating surface, while the 6-prong style is mainly used in softer plastics and relatively soft woods such as plywood and particleboard. The 4-prong style works well in both soft and hard materials.

12-Point Allen Nuts are cylindrical, internally threaded fasteners with a knurled edge. One side of the fastener is threaded to accept a mating screw or bolt, and the opposite end has a 12-point drive that can accept a hex key / allen wrench.

Fastener SuperStore now carries these parts in 24 sizes in alloy steel / black oxide starting at 4-40 and going up to size 1"-14. We also carry eight sizes in 18-8 stainless steel, going from size 4-40 up to size 3/8"-16.

Allen nuts are used when: limited space is available that prohibits external wrenching; where an unassuming, low-profile look is preferred; or where it’s critical to apply precise amounts of torque to complete the fastening. Steel allen nuts provide greater strength than stainless nuts. Stainless nuts offer greater resistance to environmental corrosion.

Coupling nuts are used to attach two externally threaded fasteners together, such as bolts or threaded rod. The internal threads of the coupling nuts run through the entire body, allowing for adjustments in tension to be made.

Our standard coupling nuts come in regular and grade 5 steel with a zinc finish, and in 18-8 stainless steel. Diameter sizes range from 4-40 up to 1"-8, while lengths range from 7/16" up to 3"

We also carry metric sizes M5-0.8 and M6-1.0, with lengths of 15, 18 and 25 millimeters. Our metric versions come in 18-8 and 316 stainless steel.

Fastener SuperStore carries 93 sizes of tension control steel bushings in through-hardened spring steel, supplied with a natural, uncoated finish.

Bushings are used similarly to roll pins or coiled spring pins in that they are inserted into machined holes and maintain their position using the outward resistance created by the rolled shape of the part.

Our bushings feature a wavy, chamfered edge where the two ends of the rolled steel meet. This opening is what allows the contraction of the part during insertion and the expansion/resistance once the part is installed. The high carbon steel from which it is manufactured offers the elasticity required to serve these functions.

Tension control bushings resist wear, maintain performance in harsh environments and can withstand temperatures up to 350° Celsius. They are used in applications including agricultural equipment, commercial lawn equipment, conveyors, earth movers, heavy trucks, material handling equipment and many more.

Cotter pins are sized by shank diameter (the circular area at the end of the pins) x the length of the shorter of two flat sides of the wire. Fastener SuperStore carries cotter pins in diameters from 1/16" up to 1/2" and in lengths from 1/4" up to 6".

Cotter pins are formed from half round wire which is shaped with a loop at one end creating a wide head. The finished product has one end of the wire extending slightly beyond the other end, with a chiseled point.

They are used to anchor various assemblies by inserting into a drilled hole of a shaft or pin and spreading the points to hold the assembly in position. When used with castle or slotted nuts, it becomes a safety locking device

Fastener SuperStore carries standard nylon cable clamps with clamping diameters from 1/8" to 5/8", with heavy duty options ranging in size from 1/8" up to 1 1/2".

Nylon cable clamps are sized based on clamping diameter (the size of the hole that will hold your cable in place; hole size (the size of the screw hole used to hold the clamp in place); and contact length (the length of the flat part of the clamp that will be installed flat against the surface it's attached to.

All standard cable clamps have a 3/8" width, while heavy duty cable clamps are 1/2" wide.

Standard Carriage Bolts feature a round head, a square neck under the head and a standard unified thread pitch. The square neck is designed to keep the bolt from turning as a nut is tightened onto it.

Fastener SuperStore offers a wide selection in full and partial threads (partial threading generally found on longer bolts).

Materials offered include steel, grade 5, grade 8, 18-8 stainless and 316 stainless. Finishes include zinc, black oxide, hot dipped galvanized, as well as plain steel options.

Ribbed Neck Carriage Bolts offer the same head shape as standard carriage bolts but replace the square shape under the head with vertical ribs that are slightly wider than the diameter of the bolt. The ribs help prevent the bolt from turning as a nut is tightened or removed.

Ribbed neck carriage bolts are offered in steel and grade 5 with a zinc finish, and in 18-8 stainless steel.

Short Neck Carriage Bolts have the same features as standard carriage bolts, except that the neck under the head is shorter. They are commonly used in sheet metal where a standard sized neck would be too large and would potentially create an obstruction.

All of our short neck carriage bolts are fully threaded and are made of steel with a zinc finish.

We carry dome head blind rivets in aluminum, stainless steel, steel & copper. The mandrel, which is the pin that is pulled from the rivet when it is installed, is generally made of the same material, but we offer some aluminum and stainless options with a steel mandrel.

Large Flange Blind Rivets feature wider head flanges and are the preferred choice when riveting soft or brittle materials to rigid surfaces. They can also be used when the holes in the materials are not perfectly centered or round.

We carry large flange blind rivets in aluminum, stainless steel & steel. Steel rivets use steel mandrels, while aluminum & stainless options are offered with matching mandrel materials as well as steel mandrels.

Countersunk Head Blind Rivets feature a head in the opposite shape of a standard dome head blind rivet. The shape allows the head to rest flush with the surface of the front facing piece it is being used to rivet together, much like a flat head screw.

We carry countersunk blind rivets in aluminum, stainless steel & steel. Stainless and steel rivets both use steel mandrels, while aluminum versions are offered with aluminum or steel mandrels.

Closed End Blind Rivets are the choice when the back of the two materials being rivetted together is not accessible & must be kept weatherproof. Once installed, the rivet prevents seepage of liquid or gas through the rivet.

Some closed end blind rivets are offered with a countersunk head. We carry closed end blind rivets in aluminum, stainless steel & steel. Stainless and steel rivets both use matching stainless or steel mandrels, while aluminum versions are offered with aluminum or steel mandrels.

Drywall Screws come in four unique styles: Coarse Thread; Fine Thread, Self-Drilling and High Low Threads.

Coarse thread drywall screws come with a sharp point and wide spaced thread for attaching drywall to wood or 25-gauge metal studs. They generally feature bugle heads to allow for countersinking into the drywall. Drive styles include phillips, square and six-lobe (Torx®)

Fine thread drywall screws feature sharp points and more closely spaced threads and are generally used to attach drywall to thin gauge metal studs and tracks. They also are primarily offered with a bugle heads, although there are some options for modified truss, pan and trim heads. Drive styles include phillips, square and six-lobe (Torx®)

Self-drilling drywall screws are used when you need a little more starting power to self-start in harder woods and thicker gauges of metal. All of our options feature a bugle head and a phillips drive.

High-low thread drywall screws feature threads of two heights and require less torque to drive than standard screws. They are more resistant to vibrational loosening, and they reduce the chance of the heads popping. Our options feature bugle heads and phillips drives.

If you are looking for a nut to match with bolts or machine screws, it's important to note the differences between finished hex nuts and machine screw nuts.

These two styles are similar and can be used interchangeably, but there are some important distinctions to make between them.

Our Finished Hex Nuts start at size 1/4-20 and go up to size 3-4 (that's a 3" size with 4 threads per inch). These are nuts that are made to go with larger screw sizes. They also feature thicker bodies than machine screws nuts, with the bodies being .875 in relation to the diameter of the nut. Additionally, their width across the flats is 1.5 of the nominal diameter of the nut.

We offer finished hex nuts in steel, grade 5, grade 8, grade 9, 18-8 stainless and 316 stainless. Finishes include zinc, black oxide, black zinc, zinc yellow, galvanized as well as several options in an Ecoguard finish.

Metric sizes, ranging from M1.6-0.35 up to M24-3.0, are available in steel classes 6, 8 and 10, as well as 18-8 and 316 stainless. Finishes include zinc and black oxide.

Our Machine Screw Nuts start at size 0-80 and go up to 3/8-24. This is a lower size range than most finished hex nuts, although there is some crossover. They also feature thinner bodies. Body thickness is generally between .621 and .864 of the nominal diameter size. Because they come in such small diameters, some machine screw nuts have a larger width across the flats than finished hex nuts, measuring between 1.67 to 2.60 compared to the diameter size.

Machine screw nuts are available in steel, as well as 18-8 and 316 stainless steel. Finishes include zinc, black oxide, black zinc, zinc green, zinc yellow, as well as some options with a nickel finish. We also offer some small pattern hex and square nut options.

The two primary types of self-tapping screws are type A and type AB screws. Although they're similar in most ways, the primary difference between the two involves the spacing of their threads.

Type A Self-Tapping Screws feature wider spaced threads very similar to wood screws. They are interchangeable with wood screws, except that type A self-tapping screws are always fully threaded, while wood screws are generally threaded about two-thirds the length of the body of the screw.

They offer a sharp, gimlet point which can sometimes be used to self-start in soft woods, although pre-drilling a pilot hole is safer, in order to avoid splitting of the wood.

Type AB Self-Tapping Screws feature tighter thread spacing and are often referred to as sheet metal screws. The finer thread allows for a tighter grip in thinner materials such as sheet metal.

Like their type A counterparts, they have a sharp, gimlet point. However, they are not generally designed to self-start in hard materials such as metals without a pilot hole.

Standard knurled thumb screws are available in diameters of 4-40, 6-32, 8-32 and 10-32, and in lengths from 5/16" to 5/8". They come in 303 stainless steel and aluminum.

Washer faced knurled thumb screws feature an extra shoulder section that allows the head to seat flush with the surface it's applied to. This style is also available in the same size and material options as the standard style.

Our nylon washers are made of 6/6 nylon and offer M80 Rockwell hardness. They have a melting point of 500° F.

Nylon flat washers improve stress distribution and help span large clearance holes. Sizes run from #2 up to 1/2".

Self piercing screws with a hex washer head and slotted drive are one of the more common styles of these types of screws. The hex shaped head and slotted drive provide options for driving the screw into place. An extra sharp point allows for driving into thin metals, such as in roofing materials.

The most commonly used style of self piercing screws include a bonded neoprene washer under the head. This washers allows for a tight seal between the screw and the metal roof in order to prevent moisture from penetrating into the wood onto which the roof is attached.

Self piercing screws with modified truss heads are a more recent option for this style of screw. This head style allows for a lower profile and a larger bearing surface. The phillips drive on these screws provides an alternate to the hex drive of other screws in this category.

Thread Forming Screws for Plastics feature widely spaced threads and a triblobular point, allowing them to form, or roll, their own threads in to the plastic materials into which they are driven. Fastener SuperStore offers these coated screws in three different colors so that you can match to the color of your wood decking and stain.

Our selection of green, red & tan ceramic coated deck screws comes in bugle heads with a square drive, in #8 and #9 diameters, and in lengths from 1 5/8" through 3" long.

All of these screws feature type 17 points, a point style with a chip cavity cut out of the final few threads, enhancing the screw's ability to cut into the wood decking. They also include nibs on the underside of the head to establish a strong connection that resists loosening. Additionally, all have passed 1,200 hour salt spray testing to ensure superior corrosion resistance.

This style of testing has a long and well established history going back to the 1930's. Fastener SuperStore now carries numerous screw types that have been approved in these salt spray environments.

Fastener SuperStore carries self-drilling screws in three grades of stainless steel: 410; 18-8 (also known as 304) & 316. Each grade provides different benefits. When it comes to self-drilling screws, it's important to take into consideration the hardness of each grade, as well as what type of material you will be installing the screw into.

18-8 & 316 stainless steel both provide greater corrosion resistance than 410 stainless however they are not hardened. 410 is hardened and much more capable of drilling through metal materials.

Your primary concern when choosing stainless steel self-drilling screws should be the material you will be drilling into. If you are drilling into wood, plastic or even thin aluminum, an 18-8 screw will probably do the job. Drilling into a harder metal will generally require 410 stainless steel. 18-8 or 316 stainless screws are likely to wear down, strip or break when drilling into harder materials.

Bushings are used somewhat similarly to roll pins or coiled spring pins in that they are inserted into a machined holes and maintain their position using the outward resistance created by the rolled shape of the part.

Our bushings feature a wavy, chamfered edge where the two ends of the rolled steel meet. This opening is what allows the contraction of the part during insertion and the expansion/resistance once the part is installed. The high carbon steel from which it is manufactured offers the elasticity required to serve these functions.

Tension control bushings resist wear, maintain performance in harsh environments and can withstand temperatures up to 350° celcius. They are used in applications including agricultural equipment, commercial lawn equipment, conveyors, earth movers, heavy trucks, material handling equipment and many more.

Dome Head Blind Rivets are the most commonly used & are often referred to as standard blind rivets. The head of the rivet is slightly rounded creating a small bump where it sits on the outer material that it is being used to join.

We carry dome head blind rivets in aluminum, stainless steel, steel & copper. The mandrel, which is the pin that is pulled from the rivet when it is installed, generally come in the same material, but we offer some aluminum and stainless options with a steel mandrel.

Large Flange Blind Rivets feature wider head flanges, and are the preferred choice when rivetting soft or brittle materials to rigid surfaces. They can also be used when the holes in the materials are not perfectly centered or round.

We carry large flange blind rivets in aluminum, stainless steel & steel. Steel rivets use steel mandrels, while aluminum & stainless options are offered with matching mandrel materials as well as steel mandrels.

Countersunk Head Blind Rivets feature a head in the opposite shape of a standard dome head blind rivet. The shape allows the head to rest flush with the surface of the top piece it is being used to rivet together, much like a flat head screw.

We carry countersunk blind rivets in aluminum, stainless steel & steel. Stanless and steel rivets both use steel mandrels, while aluminum versions are offered with aluminum or steel mandrels.

Closed End Blind Rivets are the choice when the back of the two materials being rivetted together is not accessible & must be kept weatherproof. Once installed, the rivet prevents seepage of liquid or gas through the rivet.

Some closed end blind rivets are offered with a countersunk head. We carry closed end blind rivets in aluminum, stainless steel & steel. Stanless and steel rivets both use matching stainless or steel mandrels, while aluminum versions are offered with aluminum or steel mandrels.

Featuring a large hex head, lag screws can be driven deep into the ground using hex driver bits attached to drills or impact drivers. These large and sturdy fasteners provide great holding power even when installed into a dirt or sand foundation.

The most popular lag screws used for these applications include our parts:

SEMS Screws are machine screws that come with a pre-attached washer. Utilizing SEMS screws for your application can be a significant time-saver over buying separate screws and washers and manually assembling them.

SEMS Screws With External Tooth Lock Washers are the most commonly used style of SEMS screws. The angle of the external teeth allows them to dig into the bottom of the screw head and the material that it is going through. The teeth also extend slightly beyond the outer edge of the screws head, creating a wider bearing surface and adding greater torsional resistance to loosening.

While providing slightly less strength, hold and torsional resistance, SEMS Screws With Internal Tooth Lock Washers offer different benefits. With the teeth pointing inward, under the screw head, they prevent snagging and provide a cleaner look with only the smooth, flat outer side of the washer exposed.

SEMS Screws featuring Split Lock Washers are the preferred type when used against hardened bearing surfaces. Rather than digging into the mating materials, the opposing ends of the split provide resistance to loosening by putting oppositional force against the bottom of the screw head and the bearing surface. Each end pushes against one or the other surface, providing the pressure needed to prevent the screw from slipping or loosening.

Fastener SuperStore also offers a wide selection of Double Washer SEMS Screws. Combining a split lock washer with a flat washer provides extra strength, a wide bearing surface and a clean smooth appearance.

All metals are assigned a value on the Anodic Index (Volts) Scale. These values generally range from 0.00 - 1.85. For example, 18-8 stainless steel has an anodic value of 0.50, while aluminum has a value of around 0.90.

When variations in temperature and exposure to humidity are present, the coupled parts should have anodic values within 0.15 of each other in order to not experience galvanic corrosion. When temperature range and humidity value are tightly controlled, ranges up to 0.50 are likely to be tolerated.

In the example of stainless steel and aluminum, the value difference of 0.40 indicates that the metals will probably not experience serious galvanic corrosion in a temperature or humidity controlled environment, but will likely experience it in an outdoor, wet or more volatile environment.

Fortunately Fastener SuperStore carries parts in a wide variety of materials and finishes. It's always best to match or couple parts with parts of the same metallic makeup. Steel / Zinc with Steel / Zinc; 18-8 Stainless with 18-8 Stainless; etc....

If you must mix parts made from different materials, we recommend checking the Anodic Index values to see if galvanic corrosion should be a concern. Once you have that info you can make a more informed decision regarding what materials to utilize.

This submersion process is what separates galvanized parts from steel / zinc parts. Zinc plated parts are created using an electrical process and are covered with a much thinner layer of zinc.

While zinc is not as corrosion resistant as stainless steel, it does corrode about 30 times more slowly than plain steel. The thick zinc layer that the galvanizing process provides extends that corrosion resistance to even greater levels, making galvanized parts a great option for outdoor use when the level of protection provided by stainless steel isn't required.

It's important to note that the thickness of the galvanized finish requires using oversized nuts when matching to galvanized bolts.

For this reason, only nuts noted as "galvanized" will fit with galvanized bolts. Sometimes, as in our finished hex nuts section, these nuts are also noted as "tapped oversized".

Galvanized parts can be easily identified by their somewhat muddled coloring. Silver shades may vary within each part. Sometimes parts may appear almost flaky, with some of the color transferring to your hands or gloves during installation. These are natural elements of the finish and will not impact its effectiveness.

We offer tee nuts 3, 4 and 6 prong configurations in a variety of diameters and barrel lengths.

Often used in climbing systems, the tee nut is inserted into the pre-drilled hole from the back side of a flat surface, allowing a bolt or machine screw to be attached to the internal threads from the front side.

The 3 prong style is used in harder materials to minimize splitting of the mating surface, while the 6-prong style is mainly used in softer plastics and relatively soft woods such as plywood and particleboard. The 4 prong style works well in both soft and hard materials.

Cage nuts are still used with threaded screw,however the screw attaches to a nut that is contained inside of a "cage" of sheet metal which is formed to easily attach to rails inside of server racks.

Clip nuts, rather than being pinched into place like cage nuts, are made to slide into position. This allows for easy installation or removal. Like cage nuts, they consist of a nut held in place inside a piece of formed sheet metal.

Stamped Wing Nuts get their name because they are "stamped" into their shape from flat sheet metal. They provide a larger bearing surface than cold forged. They are more economical than cold forged or washer base, however, they also offer less strength.

Fastener SuperStore offers stamped wing nuts in steel with a zinc finish, as well as some black oxide options. Sizes range from 4-40 up to 1/2-13.

Cold Forged Wing Nuts are manufactured through compression of bar stock metal inserted into a die without heating the metal. It creates a strong part that can be made economically and at a high volume.

We carry cold forged wing nuts in steel with a zinc, nickel or black oxide finish, as well as in 18-8 stainless steel. Size options range from 4-40 up to 3/8-16 with metric options also available.

Once it's flush with the wall, insert a pan head tapping screw into the empty area where the philips screwdriver was previously inserted. Screw until you reach the desired amount of space between the wall and the bottom of the screw head. You can now use that space to support string, wire or whatever you are using for hanging an item.

We carry nylon wallboard anchors that work with #6 or #8 screws in packs of 100. We also offer the #8 screw-sized anchors in cartons of 1000 pieces. In addition to those options, we also offer a zinc alloy version.

Back up washers for rivets are sometimes used to provide a larger bearing surface on the front end of a rivet installation. They're primarily used with standard dome head rivets. They can be used with large flange blind rivets for extra strength, but they will have a smaller outer diameter than the flange of a large flange rivet, so they will not increase the bearing surface.

The washer is slipped onto the barrel of your rivet, which is then inserted into the hole for installation. One important fact to note is that the washer will increase the thickness of the parts you are riveting together. Because of this, you will need to include the thickness of the washer when calculating what grip range you need.

Back up washers can also be a useful solution if you find that the grip range of the rivets you have purchased is wider than the thickness of the parts you are riveting together. A rivet with a larger than necessary grip range will fit loosely and allow the rivet to shake or move in its position.

We offer four sizes of these washers, matching the most common rivet diameters: 1/8"; 5/32"; 3/16" and 1/4". Each size is offered in aluminum or steel with a zinc finish.

The chemical reaction triggers the formation of hydrogen, then oxygen, on the surface of the aluminum, resulting in a strong oxide outer layer. This leads to several benefits:

1. Greater Durability. Anodized aluminum is harder and stronger than non-anodized. Because anodization is a transformative chemical process, rather than a coating, it is also resistant to flaking, chipping or peeling.

2. Improved Corrosion Resistance. While regular aluminum doesn't rust, it is susceptible to galvanic corrosion which can occur when it is placed in contact with dissimilar types of metals such as stainless steel. The oxide layer that results during the anodizing process serves as a protective shell, creating a barrier to this type of corrosion.

3. Ability to Accept Color Dyes. During the anodizing process, dyes can be added to the acid bath to achieve different colors. It's what allows them to absorb the black color found on these rivets. Because the dye is added as part of the conversion process, it is highly resistant to fading.

• MS16555 - Dowel Pins - Like all dowel pins, this line consists of solid, cylindrical-shaped metal, tapered on each side: One side is chamfered while the other is radiused to form a crown. Made with extreme precision, the chamfered end is inserted into a precisely sized hole and then gently pushed or tapped into place rather than being forced in by striking. They are used to hold parts in a fixed position or alignment, or to join two parts together. Our mil-spec dowel pins are made from 400 series stainless steel.

• MS16562 - Slotted Spring Pins - Slotted Spring Pins are hollow tubes with a longitudinal slot running the entire length of the part. They're made with an outside diameter slightly larger than the hole they are being inserted into. The chamfered ends allow the pin to start into the designated hole. Once started, the pin is tapped into the hole, which causes the slot to compact. This compaction results in the pin pushing outward inside the hole, creating a tight hold. Our mil-spec slotted spring pins are available in steel with a zinc phospate coating.

• MS9245 - Cotter Pins - Cotter Pins are formed from half round wire with a circular shape at the top, extending to two prongs, both chiseled while one end is slightly extended beyond the other. The chiseled ends are inserted into a drilled hole in a shaft, and the two points of the pin are then separated and wrapped around the shaft, holding a wheel or other piece onto the shaft. Our mil-spec cotter pins are made from T321 stainless steel.

Wallboard Anchors

Wallboard Anchors can be purchased in nylon or in zinc alloy. These anchors can be easily screwed into drywall because of their sharp points. They can be used in any thickness of drywall and work with #6 or #8 self-tapping or wood screws. They can also be easily backed out and moved to a new location.

Hollow Wall Anchors

Hollow Wall Anchors are available in several diameters, lengths & styles. Most require a pre-drilled hole and feature a flange with prongs which help the anchor attach tightly to the wall. These anchors come with a machine screw pre-installed which can be removed and inserted several times to accomodate changing of fixtures. Also in this category are Drive Style Hollow Wall Anchors which feature a sharp point and can be installed without a pilot hole.

Plastic Toggles

Plastic Toggles feature a cylindrical body and four legs. The hole through the center of the body has ribs which help hold it in place. These anchors are squeezed from the sides for installation into a pre-drilled hole in the wall and require a self tapping or wood screw to be inserted to expand and pull in the legs, creating a tight hold in the drywall.

Toggle Bolts

Toggle Bolts consist of a winged nut with a long machine screw installed through it. A hole large enough for the closed wings to fit through is pre-drilled into the wall, When the winged end is pushed into the wall, the wings open creating a hold that becomes stronger as the screw is tightened through it.

For a new metal roof being installed onto a building with wooden rafters, our self-piercing screws with bonded neoprene washers are a great fastening solution. Sometimes called needle point screws, the sharp point of these screws is made to easily pierce the sheet metal that the roof is manufactured from.

When installing a metal roof onto metal rafters, self-drilling screws with bonded neoprene washers will probably be the more efficient way to go.

In most cases, simple steel / zinc screws are fine for metal roofs, but for an extra level of corrosion resistance, we do offer our self-driling roofing screws in stainless steel.

A Certificate of Conformance is a certified document stating that parts conform to the specification on file for those parts. They also identify the lot number and country of origin, as well as acknowledge other important standards that the parts meet, such as RoHS, Rohs 2 and 2015/863/EU.

Hanger bolts have a wood screw thread on one end, while the other end features a machine screw thread. They're designed for hanging material from, or attaching material to, a wooden framework. They are often used in the construction of furniture.

The wood screw side is driven into the wooden structure using a hanger bolt driver. With the machine screw thread exposed, a nut is used to attach material in place.

Sizing for hex standoffs is displayed with the width across the flats of the outside (also known as the outer diameter or OD) listed first. Our female / female hex standoffs come in ODs starting at 1/8" and going up to 1/2".

The next numbers in the description indicate the diameter size - threads per inch and the length of the body. We carry diameters from 2-56 up to 1/4-20, and body lengths from 1/8" up to 3".

External Style Retaining Rings feature two externally expanded ends with holes next to a narrow opening. To install this type of ring into a groove on a shaft, a retaining ring tool is inserted into the two holes and widens the opening to fit around the shaft. Once installed, the inner circle of an external retaining ring is in direct contact with the groove for the entire circumference, except for the small opening. We carry 38 sizes of steel / black phos external style retaining rings, which can be safely used within a temperature range of -100°F to 500°F. We also have 25 sizes in stainless steel which are corrosion resistant & can be used in higher heat applications from from -100°F to 900°F.

Internal Style Retaining Rings are similar to external style retaining rings except that the ends are expanded inward rather than outward. That's because these rings are installed into grooves on the inside of a housing. The flat outside of the ring will be in direct contact with the groove for the entire circumference, except for the small opening. A retaining ring tool is inserted into the two holes and tightens the ends together until it is properly located. When the tool is removed, the ring expands to create a tight hold. We carry 40 sizes of steel / black phos external style retaining rings, which can be safely used within a temperature range of -100°F to 500°F. We also have 28 sizes in stainless steel which are corrosion resistant & can be used in higher heat applications from -100°F to 900°F.

Fastener SuperStore carries Self-Drilling Screws with attached neoprene washers in steel with a zinc finish and in 18-8 stainless steel.

Below the hex heads of these screws is a thin, conical & circular washer bonded to a similarly shaped rubber-like washer made of neoprene. The rubber section has a slightly smaller inner and outer diameter, which allows it to create a tight seal when fastened to other metal materials.

Commonly used on metal roofs, the connected washer provides better load bearing potential than standard flat washers; resists loosening caused by vibrations; and prevents leakage.

We also offer self-piercing screws with neoprene washers, as well as stand-alone neoprene washers in galvanized or stainless steel.

For light and medium duty applications into masonry, bricks & concrete, Concrete Screws are a great alternative to anchors.

Fastener SuperStore carries Concrete Screws with a hex head and a slotted drive, or with a flat head and a phillips drive. Both types come in Blue Perma Seal, a three layer finish combining a metallic zinc coating, followed by a chemical conversion film, and finally a baked ceramic outside coating.

Concrete screws require pre-drilling a pilot hole with a hammer drill fitted with the appropriately sized masonry bit. A double lead thread with alternating high and low threads, along with a diamond shaped nail-type point allow the screw to cut its own threads into these hard materials.

We carry Concrete Screws in the common diameters of 3/16" and 1/4", with lengths from 1 1/4" up to 4". Pilot holes should be the depth of the required embedment (length of the screw) plus 1/2".

Unlike most other fastener finishes, black oxide is the result of a chemical conversion, rather than the adding or removing of materials. As a result of immersion in a heated alkaline aqueous salt solution, the surface of the part converts from silver to black.

In addition to creating a smooth and solid black surface, black oxide parts provide several other important benefits.

Being a "conversion coating" means that there is no significant change in the dimensions of the part. It also means that the finish won't chip, flake or rub off.

Hydrogen embrittlement is eliminated. Hydrogen embrittlement is a decrease in toughness of a metal due to the presence of hydrogen. The black oxide conversion process dissipates any hydrogen in the material.

Unlike some electroplated parts, black oxide parts don't experience white corrosion, making them an excellent choice for use in electrical components, as white corrosion can cause electrical shorts.

Black oxide parts, while not specifically resistant to normal corrosion, are generally given an oil bath after conversion, which can add some corrosion protection.

True corrosion resistance can however be achieved by combining a black oxide finish with stainless steel parts.

Peter Lymburner Robertson is credited with popularizing the square drive style screw in Canada in the early 1900s.

The square drive had been invented years before, but hadn't caught on until Robertson, frustrated by the slotted screw drives that ruled the day, convinced Ford Motor Company to use his square drives in their New Model T automobiles. Unfortunately, Henry Ford and Robertson couldn't agree to a long term deal, and Ford soon switched to a different screw style.

Popular in Canada for decades, the square drive screw eventually started making inroads in the US by the 1970s. Robertson's screws have become popular in furniture manufacturing, boat-building & woodworking, along with drywall & decking installation.

Square Drive Screws offer greater stability than slotted screws, and reduce cam-out, a common problem when a Phillips bit continues turning after the screw has come to a halt. Stripping is almost completely eliminated, making removal of these screws easier than most.

Lock Washers can dramatically strengthen the connection between a screw or bolt to a nut. By providing a small amount of torsional resistance between the two pieces, lock washers can enhance the hold and provide resistance against loosening.

Of the three types of "tooth" lock washers, External Tooth Lock Washers provide the strongest locking efficiency. The angle of the outwardly extended teeth, and the larger bearing surface are the two primary elements of its locking ability.

Internal Tooth Lock Washers are often preferred when a clean, finished appearance is necessary. The inward direction of the teeth allows them to be hidden underneath the screw head or nut. They are also a good option when using screws with small heads, such as fillister head screws.

Internal-External Combo Tooth Lock Washers are often chosen for their larger load bearing surface, having a significantly larger outer diameter than other options. Because of the larger outer diameter, they are also the preferred lock washers when using with a hole that is oversized or out of round.

Finally, Split Lock Washers are popular for a variety of uses. With the two ends of the washer being offset, they provide stronger torsional resistance than other types. Its hardened bearing surface also provides more uniform torque control and load distribution. Split Lock Washers are also offered in several unique styles, including heavy, high collar and high alloy.

Our Eternal, Internal and Split Lock Washers are also available in metric sizes, while our External Tooth Styles are also available in a countersunk option.

Lag Screws (we'll stick with that name for now) are multi-faceted and multi-functional. They can be installed directly into wood (though pre-drilling is usually required or at least recommended), or they can be used, along with Lag Screw Shields, to install doors, gates, or other items onto masonry.

Fastener SuperStore carries them in diameters from 1/4" up to 3/4", and in lengths from 3/4" up to 24" long. Their large diameters make them ideal fasteners for applications where strength and hold are important. Some people have even been known to use larger size Lag Screws to secure large tents and small outbuildings to the ground for temporary shelter during festivals and other similar events. Our 3/8" x 14", 1/2" x 18" and 1/2" x 24" sizes are very popular for this purpose, especially in windy locations. Just be sure to remove them when their purpose is complete.

The internal shape and increased contact points allow for increased torque, both when installing and when removing. Their design also reduces "cam-out", where the driver is able to slide out of the drive recess, potentially stripping screws. We are now carrying 30° thread metric thread forming screws for plastics. Our spec sheets for these parts indicate "the 30° thread angle reduces the outward expansion of the material being displaced. The recessed design of the thread root enables more material to flow into the area between threads. The depth of the thread pattern increases the fastener’s load carrying properties while resisting vibrations, thus resisting loosening". 

We offer these screws in flat, pan and round washer heads, and with phillips and torx / six-lobe drives. They are available in steel with a zinc finish and in 18-8 stainless steel. Diameters range from M1.6-0.67 through M5-2.24, while lengths range from 4mm up to 40mm.

These parts are generic alternatives to Plastite® Brand Type PT Style Screws.

We have also added a new line of 45° thread metric thread forming screws for plastics. Spec sheet notes indicate that the "sharper thread profile increases holding strength while reducing material displacement. Drive and strip torques are higher, reducing the need for inserts or reinforcing clips". 

These screws are offered with a pozi drive and a pan head, and are made of steel with a zinc finish. Diameter sizes range from M2.2-1.0 through M6-2.5, with lengths from 5mm up to 30mm.

These parts are generic alternatives to Plastite® Brand Type-Z / Plas-Fix®-45.

RoHS stands for "Restriction of Hazardous Substances" Directive and was adopted by the European Union in 2003. It restricts the use of several hazardous materials in electronic and electrical equipment. In its current amended version, RoHS 3, it includes ten total restricted substances.

Who does RoHS affect?

RoHS most directly affects companies that produce electronic or electrical products that will be sold in the European Union, but many other countries, and even some states, have adopted similar requirements, in line with RoHS 3 standards.

Grip range tells you the range of combined thicknesses that a rivet can hold together. If you are riveting two items together which are both .09" thick, then you need a rivet with a grip range that covers .18" thickness. One with a grip range of .06" - .25" would work since .18" falls within the grip range of that rivet.

BSD Self-Drilling Screws

Most standard self-drilling screws don't conform to UNC (Unified Coarse Thread) or UNF (Unified Fine Thread) standards.

Screws of this type are classified as BSD. When the diameter of screws of this type are noted, the thread count is not part of the description. These screw diameter descriptions start with a single number (#8 or #12 for example) or a fraction (1/4" or 5/16" for example).

The wider spacing between the threads of BSD screws is beneficial for most self-drilling screw applications, as it allows for easier penetration into plywood, soft woods, composition board and some metal materials.

CSD Self-Drilling Screws

Some self-drilling screws do come in Unified Thread Pitch, UNC and UNF.

These screws are identified as CSD screws. They are easy to identify because their diameter is noted with size as well as threads per inch. Screw sizes noted as 10-24, 10-32 or 1/4-20 would fall into the CSD category.

The tighter thread spacing helps reduce friction and required driving torques. Because of this, they are often used with thicker materials.

This part contains two pieces of metal, bent into semi-circles, held together by some type of pin, creating a mirror image of each other. The open end has two C-shaped openings, clearly meant to grab onto a bolt or rod of some sort.

Item 2 (below)

These six legged spideresque nuts were found holding attachments on top of a World War II radio case that belonged to an armored vehicle.

The person asking about these parts was hoping to find a tool to remove the nuts, but finally found success using an adjustable wrench. He would still be curious to find out what they are though.

 303 stainless steel is similar to 18-8 stainless, but has a larger sulfur content, making it one of the more machinable stainless steel grades. This machinability has made it very popular in the fastener industry, particularly in the manufacture of spacers and standoffs. It is non-magnetic in it's standard state, but can become magnetic as a result of cold working (being shaped while not heated).

 316 stainless steel is both hardened and extremely corrosion resistant, making it a good choice for larger nuts, bolts and washers used in harsh environments, such as coastlines. We carry hex cap screws, along with machine, self-drilling & u-drive screws in 316 stainless. It is non magnetic.

 410 stainless steel is a hardened type common in some fastener lines, especially self-drilling screws. The hardening allows for more strength and stability, especially when being installed into metal materials. We offer many other screw types in 410 stainless, as well as some mil-spec parts and washers. 410 is a style of stainless material that actually is magnetic.

 We offer several mil-spec part lines in general 300 series and 400 series grades, and coiled spring pins and roll/spring pins in 420 stainless. Many of our 18-8 and 410 stainless lines also feature parts with a black oxide finish.

Hex Head Cap Screws are the most common type of hex head bolt. Starting at 1/4" diameters and going up to 1 1/2", they are generally, but not always, partially threaded. Lengths up to 16" are available.

We carry Hex Cap Screws in a variety of steel grades, including black oxide options in grade 2 steel, and zinc yellow options in grade 8 steel.

18-8 & 316 stainless steel are also available, along with metric sizes.

Hex Tap Bolts are always fully threaded, and are commonly used in drilled or tapped holes which are threaded for their entire length.

We offer Hex Tap Bolts in regular and grade 5 steel with a zinc finish; in grade 8 steel with a plain or zinc yellow finish; and in 18-8 stainless steel. Diameters range from 1/4" up to 1", with lengths available up to 15".

Rack Mounting Cage Nuts were designed to support components that are installed into server racks. The caged design allows them to be used in racks with square holes. We offer cage nuts in steel with a zinc finish, in sizes 10-32, 12-24 and metric size M6.

We also carry cage nuts with matching SEMS screws, featuring an attached external tooth lock washer to provide additional hold and resistance to vibration. Offered in 10-32, 12-24 and M6, they can also be purchased in packs of 25 or cartons of 1000 pieces.

Rack Mounting Clip Nuts work similarly to cage nuts, but they are designed to slide in and out of racks for easy installation. We offer clip nuts in 10-32 and metric M6 sizes, and in packages of 25 or cartons of 1000.

We also carry clip nuts with matching SEMS screws, featuring an attached external tooth lock washer to provide additional hold and resistance to vibration. Offered in 10-32 and M6, they can also be purchased in packs of 25 or cartons of 1000 pieces.

Hex Spacers are available in 6/6 nylon in outer diameters of 3/16", 1/4" and 5/16" diameters (measured across the flats of the hex). Hole sizes of .072, .091, .115 and .140 (equivalent to #1, #2, #4 and #6 screw sizes). Lengths of 1/4" up to 1 1/2" are available.

Round Spacers are more common than hex, as they allow for more clearance room.

Round shaped spacers are also available in 6/6 nylon, as well as in stainless steel, aluminum and brass / nickel. We carry outer diameters of 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8" and 1/2"; hole sizes from #2 up to #14; and lengths from 1/8" to 1 1/4" can be ordered.

Thread Cutting Screws come with sharp edges at the tip, along with a chip cavity or cutout line for clearing the cut material. We carry four unique styles at Fastener SuperStore: Type 1; Type 23; Type 25 & Type F.

Type 1 Thread Cutting Screws have machine screw threads, a blunt point and tapered threads. The primary difference from Type F is that Type 1 Screws contain only one cutting edge.

Type 23 Thread Cutting Screws use a different style of cutting edge than Type F and Type 1. Instead of a line cut into the tip of the screw, they feature a large cut-out triangular area to allow for more clearance of materials.

Type 25 Thread Cutting Screws offer widely spaced threads, unlike the other styles of thread cutting screws.Like Type 23, they have a large area of the tip cut out for material clearance.

Type F Thread Cutting Screws feature machine screw threads, a blunt point, tapered ending threads and multiple cutting edges near the tip. Two subgroups of Type F Screws are Floorboard and Grounding Screws.

Dome Head Blind Rivets are the most commonly used. They feature a low profile head and a clean finished appearance. The head size is a perfect match for most riveting jobs.

The larger sized head on a Large Flange Blind Rivet allows for the riveting together of softer or more brittle materials, as well as items with less exact or well formed hole sizes.

Countersunk Head Blind Rivets provide a smooth front surface along with better clearance for moving parts that could come into contact with the rivet head, making them a great option for tight spaces.

Closed End Blind Rivets are used in situations where there is no access to the back side of the items being riveted together. Most rivets of this style have a dome head, but countersunk options are also available.

Hanger bolts have a wood screw thread on one end, while the other end features a machine screw thread. They're designed for hanging material from, or attaching material to, a wooden framework. They are often used in the construction of furniture.

The wood screw side is driven into the wooden structure using a hanger bolt driver. With the machine screw thread exposed, a nut is used to attach material in place.

Machine Screw Flat Washers - This style is common in smaller sizes, going from a #2 screw hole up to 3/8". They are also the thinnest type of flat washer, working best with machine screws and machine screw nuts. Our selection includes 18-8 stainless steel, along with steel with a zinc, black oxide, black zinc or yellow zinc finish.

USS Flat Washers - These are the largest of the flat washers, offering greater thickness and outer diameters, and offered in sizes up to 3". Our USS washers are available in all the same materials and finishes as machine screw washers, as well as in 316 stainless steel and in steel with a galvanized finish.

SAE Flat Washers - Sized between machine screw and USS flat washers, this style was designed primarily to be used in automotive applications. They are available in diameters up to 1 1/2" and in the same materials as USS washers.

Nylon Washers - We carry hole sizes #2 up through 1/4". Each size is available in four different thickness options.

Coupling nuts are longer than regular hex nuts and are used to join threaded rod or pipes together.

Standard coupling nuts join two pieces that have the same diameter / thread count. We also carry reducer coupling nuts which allow two different sized rods or pipes to be joined together.

Our standard coupling nuts are available in standard or grade 5 steel, with a zinc finish. We also offer them in 18-8 Stainless Steel. Our reducer coupling nuts are available in steel / zinc and come in four common sizes.

Elevator bolts are similar to carriage bolts in that they are low profile and feature a square protrusion on the bottom side of the head. The square neck allows these bolts to stay in place while tightening or loosening from the nut side when inserted into a square hole.

They differ from carriage bolts by offering a flat surface on the top of the head and a wider bearing surface. The wider bearing surface makes them a good option for vertical fastening, and for use in conveyor systems, such as their namesake.

These parts offer a yield strength of 36,000 psi and a tensile strength of 54,000 psi minimum.

The length of an elevator bolt is measured from the top of the head to the end of the bolt, and the thread length is two times the diameter size, plus .25", at a minimum.

The deeper thread recess greatly increases the holding power and offers greater resistance to pull out forces.

Our deep thread wood screws come in diameters from #5 to #12, and in lengths from 3/8" up to 6".

Coiled Spring Pins are hollow, headless and formed from rolled sheet metal. Sized slightly larger than the hole they are inserted into, the coil creates outward pressure to hold the pin in place.

Coarse thread drywall screws are the perfect fasteners for hanging standard drywall to wooden wall studs. We carry these screws with bugle heads and trim heads; both designed to countersink into drywall and be covered with spackling compound.

Fine thread drywall screws are more commonly used with metal studs. In addition to bugle heads and trim heads, this style is also available with pan or modified truss heads.

18-8 stainless steel deck screws are very common because of their corrosion resistance properties. 18-8 is similar to 300 series stainless steel, and is a perfect material for use in outdoor applications where moisture may often be present.

Deck screws with a dacrotized finish are another common material / finish option. A dacrotized finish is a pollution-free ceramic coating for fasteners that are used with treated lumber, as it will not discolor the wood.

Parts with a dacrotized finish have similar corrosion resistance to galvanized parts, but they do so with a thinner and smoother finish. Dacrotized deck screws are generally less expensive than their stainless steel counterparts.

On the opposite side of the drive is the point, available in numerous styles, two of the most common of which are Cup Points and Cone Points.

Cup points are tapered to a flat end, and can be used for a permanent hold, or for applications where it may need adjusted over time. 

Cone Point Set Screws taper completely to a sharp point which creates a more permanent hold against the shaft.

We also carry flat points, 1/2 dog points, and oval points in our standard selection. In metric sizes, we have cup points and knurled cup points.

Standard Low Crown Acorn Nuts are the most common style. We carry this style in steel, with a nickel, black oxide or black zinc finish; as well as in 18-8 stainless steel.

Black oxide is a conversion coating, meaning that a chemical reaction changes the appearance of the metal to black. Because it is a conversion, and not an applied finish, there will be no chipping or change in color over time. Black oxide parts usually have a small amount of oil added to them.

Black zinc is an applied coating similar to regular zinc, and provides slightly better corrosion resistance than clear zinc or black oxide.

Washer based acorn nuts simply have a round flange on the bottom side of the nut. This style works well to cover oversized or offset holes, or to provide additional surface area when used with soft materials such as wood or plastic. We carry this style in die-cast zinc alloy, in both open and closed end styles.

Additionally, we carry several sizes of open end acorn nuts in standard style.

At Fastener SuperStore, we carry Concrete Screws in 3/16" and 1/4" diameters, and in lengths up to 5". All feature a blue perma-seal coating that adds to the screw's strength and corrosion resistance.

The coating features a metallic zinc layer, a chemical conversion film, and a baked ceramic surface.

Concrete screws are available in a slotted, hex washer head or in a phillips flat head style. All of our Concrete Screws come in cartons of 100 pieces and include a drill bit. External Tooth Lock Washers

These washers feature twisted prongs, or teeth, on the outside of the washer. Since the external teeth provide a larger radius than other types of lock washers, these are considered to be the most efficient style. Six material / finish options are available. Can also be purchased in countersunk style.

	Internal Tooth Lock Washers          On this style, the locking prongs face inward. This allows for a more finished look with the teeth not exposed. These washers are also good options to match to screws with small heads. Finishes available include zinc, black oxide, black zinc and zinc yellow. Stainless steel options are also available.
	Internal / External Combo Tooth Lock Washer These feature teeth on both the inside and the outside. These washers are good options when a larger bearing surface is required; for oversized or out of round holes; and for optimum electrical connections. We offer these in steel, with zinc, black oxide and zinc yellow finishes; as well as in 18-8 stainless steel
	Split Lock Washers Available in medium, heavy, high collar and high alloy options, Split Lock Washers, Fastener SuperStore carries thirteen combinations of style, material and finish. The two openings at the split are bent slightly in opposite directions, creating outward pressure when installed. Also available in metric sizes.

E Style Retaining Rings

Rounded on the outside, with a wide opening, E-Style Retaining Rings are installed vertically onto machined grooves on shafts. The three internal areas of the ring maintain contact with the shaft, holding the ring in place. They are sometimes referred to as E Clips.

We offer e-style retaining rings in steel with a black phos finish, and in stainless steel. Sizes range from .062" through 1.88". Spec sheets linked on each part page offer detailed measurements for each part.

External Style Retaining Rings

External Style Retaining Rings feature a small opening on the circumference. The two ends at the opening are called lugs, and each contains a small hole to help with installation. These rings are often used to hold items on a shaft. The narrowness of the opening allows the ring to maintain nearly complete contact with the shaft to which it is attached.

We offer external style retaining rings in steel with a black phos finish, and in stainless steel. Sizes range from .250" through 3". Spec sheets linked on each part page offer detailed measurements for each part.

Internal Style Retaining Rings

Internal Style Retaining Rings are similar to External Style, except that the lugs face the inner portion of the ring. They are often used to hold a round shaft inside a piece of equipment by creating outward tension. The holes in the lugs stay exposed so that a retaining ring tool can access them.

Our internal style retaining rings are available in steel with a black phos finish, and in stainless steel. Sizes range from .250" through 3". Spec sheets linked on each part page offer detailed measurements for each part.

The deep thread found in these screws allows for tighter hold and better resistance to pullout forces. We offer Deep Thread Wood Screws in a variety of head, drive & finish options. Many are available in Type 17, which features a chip cut out of the tip, allowing for a faster start when driving the screws.

Heavy Square Nuts also feature a washer-faced top side, and a flat or chamfered bottom, but are wider and thicker than the regular style. These come from size 1/2-13 up to 7/8-9.

Finally, Machine Screw Square Nuts are completely flat on both the top and the bottom. They are designed to be the best option to use with machine screws. This style is available from size 2-56 up to 3/8-16.

Panel Nuts are sized according to their diameter-thread count, then their thickness, then the width across the flats of the outside on the nut. For example, 3/8-32 x 3/32" (7/16" AF).

Lag Screw Shields, also known as lag screw expansion shields, consist of two semi-cylindrical sections which are internally threaded. As a lag screw is tightened, the shield expands. The ribbed outer surface then resists backing out of the hole into which it has been inserted.

Knurled Thumb Screws feature a diamond cut pattern encircling the round head of the screw. We offer this style with or without a washer face.

Type P Thumb Screws feature two flat sides on the head. They are available with or without a shoulder. The shoulder is a low profile circular surface just below the flat head of the screw, similar to the washer face on the Knurled Style.

The sizing of precision shoulder screws is based on the thread diameter & the length of the unthreaded shoulder, rather than the entire length of the screw. They're designed for use in applications where the screw needs to be frequently loosened or removed in in order to make precise alignment adjustments. Square Nuts are used with square head bolts or with machine screws. The longer sides of the head create a greater bearing surface for wrenching. We carry several styles, materials & finishes in our Square Nut section, while smaller sizes can be found in the Machine Screw Nut section of our site.

Cage Nuts consist of a square nut inside of a steel cage. The cage, formed from sheet metal, is designed to clip into a square hole, usually as part of a server rack. The sides of the cage are pinched together and inserted into the rails. Once inside they spring back out to hold the nut in place.

Clip Nuts, sometimes called clip-on nuts, also feature a square nut inside of formed sheet metal. Like cage nuts, they are often used in computer server racks. They can be used with square or round holes.

Stamped wing nuts are formed from sheet metal. While usually the least expensive of the wing nut options, they don't have the strength of the other styles. Our stamped wing nuts are made of steel with a zinc or black oxide finish.
