All About Self-Drilling Screws
Also known as TEK screws, self-drilling screws feature a drill bit style tip, eliminating the need for pre-drilling. The screw will drill its own pilot hole into material (wood and thin or softer metals) and will form mating threads in the material.
Use our convenient filters on the following pages to narrow your search for the right screw. You can filter for the size (diameter), length, head style, drive style, material and finish that you require.

Stainless Steel Self-Drilling Screws
If you’re looking for stainless steel self-drilling screws, it’s important to note the different hardness and corrosion resistance of different grades of stainless steel.
410 stainless steel is hardened and is the right choice if you’re installing screws into metal material.
18-8 stainless steel is a softer material and is generally the right choice for drilling into wood or plastics.
316 stainless steel is the most corrosion resistant grade of stainless steel that we offer and is good for wet environments.
Other Self-Drilling Screws
We also offer several other styles of self-drilling screws.
Steel or stainless steel with attached neoprene washers offer a tight, waterproof seal.
A green ceramic finish offers an alternative to stainless steel if you need corrosion resistance.
DID YOU KNOW?
Self-drilling screws come in two styles: Type BSD and Type CSD. Type BSD features spaced
threads while Type CSD has threads with machine screw spacing.
Type BSD is the more common option and is the preferred option for most applications.
Unless noted with a machine screw thread size (10-32, ¼-20, 5/16-18, etc…), indicating Type CSD, most self-drilling screws
are Type BSD.
